Third-year students have the opportunity to complete an accredited law program at an international law school or civil law school in Canada. The international requirement of the upper year may be supplemented by an international exchange for an academic semester if approved by the Vice-Dean. The most logical term for the exchange is the autumn semester of the third year, when no compulsory courses are scheduled. Letter of Permission students may be required by their home institution to take certain courses while at the University of Calgary. The availability of these courses must be confirmed prior to registration, as there are not always places available in these courses. It is the sole responsibility of the student to ensure that all graduation requirements from their home law school are met. As we evaluate your application, we will look for evidence that you are likely ready to succeed in law school and make a positive contribution to your community. To do this, we use a very comprehensive evaluation process. Students who have completed their first year of study at a Canadian common law faculty and have passed the LSAT may apply to the University of Calgary`s Faculty of Law to complete two years of the Bachelor of Laws and receive their Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Calgary. International law students who have signed a formal exchange agreement with the University of Calgary can apply for a semester or year as exchange students at the University of Calgary. Law school restrictions may be a factor in admitting BP applicants, meaning that in a few years, not all otherwise qualified BP applicants will be admitted, even those with compelling personal reasons or extenuating circumstances that make earning their law degree at UCalgary Law highly desirable.
