Legal Associations in Canada

The aim of the Centre for Applied Legal Ethics is to ensure continued participation in legal ethics issues at the national level. The program sponsored a half-day ethics orientation program, small group workshops on ethics issues, a symposium on legal ethics, a legal ethics essay competition, advanced ethics seminars, on-campus ethics lecture programs, and a website with an open dialogue space to discuss legal ethics. Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers is an independent national organization of lawyers in the United States focused on professional liability and legal ethics. The goal of the Public Interest Law Center is for all NYU graduates to “integrate public service into their careers.” “NYU`s commitment to public service is manifested in the funding, education and support” it provides to its students. The Centre for Community Law and Development at the University of the Northwest, the Centre for Community Law and Development, “provides legal services, training, capacity building programmes and legal advisory services to all members of the community sector in the North-West and Mpumalanga provinces”. Community Legal Education OntarioCLEO is a community legal clinic dedicated to providing low-income and disadvantaged Ontarians with the legal information they need to understand and exercise their legal rights. The Advocates` Society Institute for Civility & ProfessionalismThe Institute for Civility and Professionalism provides training and mentorship opportunities for Ontario`s legal profession. The institute organizes annual workshops to promote politeness and provides programs to businesses and associations to facilitate discussion, education and mentoring. Jacqueline divides her time between Windsor and Toronto and is also an occasional and frequent guest lecturer at the University of Windsor`s Faculty of Law. She is also involved in collaborative projects with the University of Windsor, including the Reclaim Pro Bono Project (www.reclaimprobono.org/), which provides free legal advice and representation to clients who have experienced online and technology-assisted violence.

The aim of the project is to study, explore and solve pressing issues of social injustice in online environments. In particular, the project focuses on non-consensual dissemination of intimate images, online harassment, sextortion, public disclosure of private facts, voyeurism and identity theft. The Hofstra Institute for the Study of Legal Ethics serves as a research center for the study of legal ethics. In addition to offering courses on professional responsibility, ISLE sponsors speakers, conferences, symposia and also offers research opportunities to students and faculty. Building on the legacy of its predecessor, the Keck Center on Legal Ethics and the Legal Profession, the Center focuses on professional liability issues and the structure of legal practice. The Centre offers lectures, panels, workshops, lectures and continuing education programmes International Forum on Legal Ethics and Professionalism Education – An online community and resource library for teachers, academics and ethics practitioners worldwide, supported by the UK`s Centre for Legal Education (UKCLE) and the National Institute for Teaching Ethics and Professionalism (NIFTEP), housed at Georgia State University School of Law. It is designed as an online meeting place, resource repository and clearinghouse for an international community of educators, academics and ethics practitioners. There are several other legal organizations that share the Center for Legal Professions` commitment to promoting legal ethics, professionalism, and public service.

Pro Bono Law Ontario Pro Bono Law Ontario is a not-for-profit organization that promotes access to justice in Ontario by creating and promoting opportunities for lawyers to provide pro bono legal services to people with limited resources. One of PBLO`s main tasks is to mediate the relationship between public service providers (legal clinics, community organizations) and the private bar association (law firms, bar associations). PBLO plays an active role in the community by seeking these opportunities and developing pro bono collaborative projects. The Center for Ethics and Public Service operates three in-house clinics that legally represent low-income communities in the areas of children`s rights, public health claims, and nonprofit economic development. The center also runs three educational programs in ethics education, vocational training, and community service.
