Lawyers are writers. Whether it`s writing briefs, drafting contracts or bylaws, or simply sending emails, lawyers are regularly asked to convey complex information clearly, meaningfully and in writing. The Faculty of Law`s curriculum recognizes the central importance of written communication to legal practice. From the first year, students learn not only to think about legal issues, but also to research and write about these issues in a variety of practical contexts. In their graduate years, students continue to write and work with the Faculty of Law to engage intensively with legal concepts in practice-oriented and academic contexts. During their second and third years at law school, all students must complete at least two important legal texts. Students meet these requirements through projects that address a variety of legal issues in practical and academic contexts. Through seminars led by professors; Participation in one of the fourteen journals of the Faculty of Law; and clinics, internships, and other experiential courses help students improve their writing skills in areas they are passionate about. Requirements for the senior year emphasize the iterative nature of writing and the value of receiving and responding to feedback. In addition to the comprehensive program offered by the Duane Morris LLP Legal Writing Program, students must take upper-level writing courses and have the opportunity to work on three published journals to help them develop additional legal writing skills. Law students: If you want to enter one of the top LLM programs, you must be able to demonstrate that you have strong writing skills.
One way to do this is to take this course and list the certificate you receive in your reference list. We make it our duty to pass on our passion for the legal profession. Both inside and outside the classroom, we strive to model and communicate the highest standards of care, competence, service and openness in order to prepare students for client-centered law practice. Although the course is designed as a 10-week course, you can take it at your own pace. For example, you can do one class a week, two classes a week, or three or four classes a week. The small size of the Arizona University of Law and our law school team (pictured above) provide an ideal opportunity to model professionalism and bring lessons from real-world legal practice to law school teaching. students must apply for LL.M. Research and Writing, a semester-long course that introduces written legal analysis into the common law system. In addition, all LL.M. applicants must complete the LL.M. Writing Project, a research paper that includes original legal research on a topic chosen by a student. Through the writing project, students have the opportunity to work side-by-side with the law school to explore new legal issues related to a student`s interests. Our full-time law professors have extensive teaching experience and are committed to helping students improve the written and oral skills needed to succeed in the practice of law. Each year, the Faculty of Legal Writing creates new and innovative exercises to introduce various writing skills and is committed to working with students inside and outside the classroom to meet their needs and goals. Legal Practice Workshop (“LPW”) is a mandatory year-round course that introduces students to the research, writing and analytical skills essential to legal practice. Through a series of simulation exercises, students learn how to digest and analyze a legal problem and finally present this analysis to different target groups in writing.
