This internship is a practical opportunity for law students to engage in health law and policy, and to work with practicing lawyers to advocate on behalf of consumers. Internal responsibilities may include conducting legal research, writing internal and external calls, providing direct customer service, and creating consumer-focused knowledge of your rights. Where possible, articling students will help represent clients at Medicaid Fair hearings and New York State of Health Marketplace appeals. The CDC`s Public Health Law Program (PHLP) seeks motivated students who enjoy challenges and can bring a fresh perspective and innovative solutions to the CDC. With rolling start and end dates throughout the academic year, unpaid internships and internships with PHLP expose students to the field of public health and allow them to explore the role of law in advancing public health goals. These internships/internships are unpaid. Internships are not linked to academic credits. Clerkship and internships are available to students seeking academic credit, as authorized by law schools or schools of public health. These articling positions create formal entry-level experiences for third-year law students and third-year law students who wish to explore careers in public health law.

Each summer, the O`Neill Institute welcomes law students from the United States and around the world for eight-week full-time paid internships. Articling students work under the guidance of leading experts in health law, gain valuable expertise and professional skills, and contribute to excellence.
Previous interns have worked in areas such as health and human rights, noncommunicable diseases, infectious diseases, and comparative health law and policy, such as responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. During their time at the O`Neill Institute, articling students can assist in the preparation of legal opinions, conduct legal research on health issues, attend health law meetings, symposia and symposia, and write blog posts. The Legal Intern will participate in a variety of projects and gain valuable information on the functioning of an in-house legal department supporting WADA`s mission. The OGC supports all WADA activities and the Legal Intern faces a variety of legal issues. The articling student reports directly to Melissa Green, Assistant General Counsel. The Act has been essential to achieving public health goals and serves as the foundation for government public health practice in the United States. Many of the greatest public health achievements, including high childhood immunization rates, improved vehicle safety, workplace safety and reduced tooth decay, are the result of legal intervention. Today, the law plays an increasingly important role in addressing emerging public health threats such as childhood obesity, healthcare-associated infections, motor vehicle injuries and prescription drug overdoses. In addition to the above responsibilities, articling students working at WADA`s Chicago headquarters will also have the opportunity to attend WADA`s annual meeting in June to observe formal House of Representatives procedures and discuss political, governance, social and health issues on a national platform, with a particular focus on how OGC lawyers support the process. All internships and subsequent internships consist of 9 to 14 weeks of work experience at PHLP. All internships and internships will be remote.
