Key accomplishments include negotiating major contracts with the Australian government, including GovNext-ICT in Western Australia (2017) and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, Australia. David has over 20 years of experience in law and governance. After starting his legal career in 2 prestigious law firms in Malaysia specializing in intellectual property and trademark law, he embarked on a 5-year government mandate in 2004, handling a wide range of legal, administrative and policy issues for the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports and then the Ministry of Tourism. After retiring from the public service, David returned to the corporate sector by joining British American Tobacco Malaysia as Senior Legal Counsel in 2010 and was promoted to Chief Legal and Secretarial Officer in 2015. Mahendran Gnasamoothy was a corporate and litigation lawyer for 10 years before leaving the practice of law to enter the business world as in-house counsel. He has worked for various publicly traded companies in a variety of industries, including financial services, telecommunications, construction, and oil and gas. Mahendran has over 10 years of experience as in-house legal counsel in the AMEA region, South Asia and most ASEAN countries. She holds a first-class law degree from the University of Cambridge and is qualified to practise law in England and Wales as well as Singapore. For over 10 years, she has been consistently ranked as a leading lawyer in various legal directories, including Chambers Global, Chambers Asia Pacific, Legal 500 and IFLR1000. This award recognizes in-house legal teams that have made a significant contribution to change or transformation at the industry or industry level, or who have championed unusual or innovative approaches.
