In retrospect, that should have been the case. But I think one thing I`ve learned is that if you`re not super vigilant and you really dig deep into other things and you get a call like that, it can be quite surprising. You may want to think that you would be able to detect a phone scam the minute the call arrives. But Pieter Gunst didn`t – and he worked as a technology lawyer for years. You called because you knew it was a fraudulent call at the time? What is our secret, you might ask? I say it`s all in our paralegals. Then they said, “Look, we`re going to verify your identity by sending a verification code to your cell phone.” And the moment this person said that, I received a confirmation PIN of the bank`s regular SMS number. A six-digit code. And they said, “Can you please read this code to us?” Peter, tell us about the first call you received. Who was it? The person who called me in the first sentence introduced himself as working for my particular bank.

The firm was founded on the principles of consistent excellence in client service, a tireless work ethic, careful judgment and world-class courtroom skills, both oral and written. Our paralegals have been working hard together for years to meet and exceed these expectations and achieve the long-term trust of our clients. At that point, it became pretty clear that this was not a legitimate call. But the funny thing is that I still didn`t think I was dealing with a scammer. I told the person that the bank should update its procedures. I am not giving you that number. For the record, I`m quite young and have never had any debts (again, I have no idea who they require). I was curious about whether or not I could contact the police about this, or if there was another way to protect myself from these thugs (i.e. prevent them from making further calls). Also, I wonder if they can take action against me (like changing the name of the person I`m looking for to match the first name I gave them) if I simply block their number and ignore their calls. Experienced paralegals with a proven track record of enforcing court orders, decisions and other legal obligations in Canada – quickly and cost-effectively.

I learned a lot. The easiest way to block this would be, once I receive a call, to say, “Thank you, I`ll call you back to the number on my card.” And that would have essentially stopped the attack. That was the case. It was a very, very smart thing. What they found out is that when you log in and say I forgot my password, that particular bank asks for your membership number. And then they basically allow you to do the verification of text messages. That`s right. Theoretically, you can`t really do anything with the number alone, or at least, I thought. We invest a lot of time to actively listen to what our customers have to say. The better we absorb information, the better our judgment will be. The second error was the indication of this membership number. Just don`t share personal information with a caller, no matter who they claim to be. And at this point, they began to assert their authority – “You are in a recorded line. We will not be able to block this transaction if you do not give us this number” – and increase the aggressiveness of the call, after which I finished it and called the fraud department. When a company hires us to collect, we strive to secure payment as quickly as possible and avoid costly legal proceedings whenever possible.

But if necessary, we can and do push debtors to court where we may be able to obtain a binding judgment against the debtor on behalf of the creditor. They therefore continued to increase the credibility of the appeal. They basically had access to an account. You couldn`t make transactions, but you could see information. For about a week, I`ve been getting calls from a company called TPH Legal Services. It happens once a day, and it`s been a big pain for them since they were looking for someone with a name I don`t know. Eventually, I cracked and called them back to tell them they had the wrong number and politely asked them not to call me again. During this conversation, I revealed my first name (a mistake in retrospect; I`ll explain it to you). The receptionist said they would make a note that it was a bad number and we ended the conversation there.

I then went to Google to do some research.
